Website offers chance to win a million whilst raising a million for charity
Michael Blakeley, a 25 year old graduate from Newcastle upon Tyne, has created an advertising website selling pixels with a difference. Not only is there a free lottery where one lucky person can win a million dollars but, if successful, another million dollars will be donated to charity.
The website, www.tickettoamillion.com, moves away from attracting the usual internet advertisers and specifically targets mainstream and ethical companies who want to promote themselves in a family friendly environment and who care that a significant proportion of their money is being donated to charity.
Michael, who now lives in London, has selected five beneficiary charities. These are FARM-Africa, Hope for Children, Peace Direct, Sense, and The Institute of Cancer Research, whom will each receive $100,000 if the website is successful. The other five charities which stand to benefit will be decided by the votes of visitors to the site.
Hannah Crabtree, Press and PR Manager at The Institute of Cancer Research commented “This is an exciting and unique fundraising opportunity. Over the last few years many people have used the internet to make huge amounts of money. It’s incredibly refreshing to find a website that offers the chance for people to win a million as well as raising money for good causes.”
The basic idea is the same as other such sites, which is to sell pixels to companies wishing to advertise. What sets Ticket to a Million apart is that only advertisers which fall within their Family Friendly Guidelines will be allowed to feature. These guidelines aim to make the website accessible to the whole family, as well as attracting mainstream companies, by banning sites which promote certain products or activities, such as gambling, alcohol and pornography.
Ticket to a Million seeks to harness the massive power the public have at the click of their fingers. By registering on the site, not only are they entered into a lottery to win a possible one million dollars but they also have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to raise money for charity.
For further information, to register for the chance to win a million dollars, and to help raise money for charity please go to www.tickettoamillion.com. If you are a company and would like to advertise please go to the website and follow the instructions there.
