» complete changeSince the start of SWiK, we've had a pretty simplistic front page. It was one of the few pages that wasn't editable or changeable.
We upgraded it along the way to highlight new projects that people were adding to the wiki, but now we've expanded that even more with the new tagging system.
Now you can feature a new project on the front page with a message about what it is and what makes it cool. Or if there is something new in an existing open source project, link to that and submit it to the front page. Go "here":http://stories.swik.net/?newstory to add something new.
What's featured on the front page is controlled by you the user, based on your tagged pages. Tag stuff if you think it's cool, and check out the 'recently added' page to see the up-to-the-minute stuff.

The site should be back online now, keeping the site up and running is our biggest priority and we'll try to fix whatever caused the issue.

» complete changeAfter the scheduled outage we have updated the servers to a new version of [[SWiK]] - this includes per user tagging. Each user of SWiK can set up a collection of pages, and help to organize the entire [[wiki]] as well.
Since it's a personal collection of tags, we now require login to tag pages. You can still edit the details of a page without registration however.
We've migrated the old system of tagging to the new system - anonymous tags have been preserved under the [[user:anonymous]], but no more will be allowed and eventually these may be phased out.
You can tag each page via the editing interface, or via a simple link in the top right of a page.
Tagging also influences the order of pages under the left navbar. If you tag a page - it will take priority in the left _pages_ navbar.
Finally tagging popularity has been updated to reflect the new tagging system. The more people who tag a project - the higher it will rate under their those common tags.

You may have noticed some downtime - this is due to a [[SWiK]] speed upgrade - many pages that were loading slowly before should now be much faster thanks to some mysql optimization.
Features are great, but keeping the site fast under increasing traffic is our top priority, hope you enjoy the new speed :)
We've revamped SWiK with an all new style, new icon features, new statistic features, woot.
We've just added a new feature, you can now add wiki links in project Author and License fields.
This means that you will ...
We've just added a new feature, you can now add wiki links in project Author and License fields.
This means that you will create a wiki link to the license, and at the same time, this will create a tag on the project, with the tag.
This also lets you do, http://swik.net/License:GPL+Java to see the most recent or most popular Java software that is licensed under the GPL.
Licenses must be prefixed with the word License: - authors however can be anything.
Rolled out Diff today - now you can see specifically what someone changed in the recent edits pages.

We rolled out a new version of [[SWiK]] today with a number of interesting new features:
* If you make a bunch of edits as an anonymous user, you can take credit for them when you log in or create an account for yourself!
* We have a commenting system so that you can add simple comments to pages, articles, or entries.
* We have added a "paging" system so that you can browse more than just the most recent ~20 items for a page or blog. You can now browse through the entire history of items if you're so inclined!
* Finally, we have added a cool new "tag cloud" feature. On a project, click on "tags" in the left navigation bar, and look at the tags that the current project is related to (smaller projects might not have any related tags!). You can click on that to see a list of all things in the system that are tagged with both of those tag names.
The neat result of the last of these two is that we now have URL syntax for finding things with two tag. For example, to find [[CMS]] (Content Management Systems) written in [[Java]], you can just type:
http://swik.net/CMS+Java
