» complete change*FLAC* or _Free Lossless Audio Codec_ is a streamable audio codec that compresses and decompresses audio files without losing any data.
Because it is a lossless codec, it typically cannot compress as well as popular lossy codecs such as [[AAC]], [[MP3]], or [[Ogg]] - nevertheless FLAC is capable of compressing a CD by up to 50%.
The FLAC project includes development on a number of sub components: reference libraries, a command line tool for encoding and decoding FLAC files, a command line tool for editing FLAC files' metadata, as well as plugins for numerous applications including [[Winamp]] and [[XMMS]].
The reference libraries (libFLAC, libFLAC++) are available under the terms of the [[License:GPL|GPL]]. Free Lossless Audio Codec.
